Phil Giudice
Chief Executive Officer

Phil Giudice is the CEO of Liquid Metal Battery Corporation.  LMBC is a technology company creating cost effective, reliable, wide spread grid electricity storage solutions, enabling separation of power demand from power supply. Phil has more than 30 years' experience in the energy industry as a geologist, consultant, executive, and state official.


Phil was appointed by US Department of Energy Secretary Steven Chu to US DOE's Energy Efficiency and Renewables Advisory Committee as well as its State Energy Advisory Board. In addition, he is a board member for the energy business leadership trade group Advanced Energy Economy as well as the efficiency start up FirstFuel.

Most recently Phil served the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Undersecretary of Energy and as Commissioner of the Department of Energy Resources, the state agency with primary responsibility for fulfilling Governor Deval Patrick's vision for a clean energy future.

Prior to his service in the Patrick-Murray Administration, Phil was senior vice president and board member at EnerNOC, a start-up providing electricity demand-management services to businesses, institutions, utilities, and grid operators that became a public company in 2007. He was previously a senior partner and leader of Mercer Management Consulting's global energy utilities practice for 20 years. He started his career as a metals exploration geologist with Freeport-McMoRan and with Chevron.

Phil is also active in the nonprofit realm, having help found the Center for Effective Philanthropy and serving as Board Chair for 8 years as well as currently serving on the President's Council of ACCION. In addition, he completed full terms on the boards of the City Year Boston, First Parish Church of Wayland, and Haitian Health Foundation. He was also the founding chair of Boston Cares.

Phil is a geologist (B.S. from University of New Hampshire and M.S. in Economic Geology from the University of Arizona) and a management professional (M.B.A. from Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth)

David Bradwell
Founder, Chief Technology Officer

David is a co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of Liquid Metal Battery Corporation. As a co-inventor of the liquid metal battery, David received the prestigious TR35 award from Technology Review, rated as one of the world’s top 35 innovators under 35.


David leads the technical team to develop the Liquid Metal Battery technology, with a determined focus on creating a low cost and effective storage technology to meet the strenuous performance and cost demands for bulk-energy stationary storage applications.

David has earned a B.Sc in Engineering Physics from Queen's University, and an M.Eng. and PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Donald Sadoway
Founder, Chief Scientist

Donald Sadoway is the John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The author of over 135 scientific papers and holder of 16 U.S. patents, his research into the electrochemistry of molten salts has resulted in the invention of a rechargeable battery for grid-level storage applications and the development of environmentally sound electrochemical technology for the extraction, refining, and recycling of metals.


Don obtained the B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science, the M.A.Sc. in Chemical Metallurgy, and the Ph.D. in Chemical Metallurgy, all from the University of Toronto. After a year of postdoctoral study at MIT as a NATO Fellow, Dr. Sadoway joined the faculty in 1978. From 1995 to 2005 he held a MacVicar Faculty Fellowship, MIT’s highest award for excellence in undergraduate education. In 1999 he became the John F. Elliott Professor of Materials Chemistry. In 2001 he was elected Member of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences.

Kristin Brief
Director of Corporate Development and Treasurer

Kristin is the Director of Corporate Development and Treasurer of LMBC. Kristin joined LMBC in March 2012, with over nine years of experience in the energy industry. Kristin brings to LMBC a broad base of knowledge on the electric power sector, including wholesale market design and utility regulation.


Kristin’s primary focus at LMBC is on market development, and she is also in charge of finance, human resources, and marketing. Prior to joining LMBC, Kristin was a senior manager at EnerNOC, where she focused on developing demand-side management partnerships with utilities and grid operators worldwide. Prior to EnerNOC, Kristin was an analyst in the energy practice of NERA Economic Consulting. Kristin has a BA in Economics from Dartmouth College.
